Features to Consider When Buying Digital TV Recorders

When shopping for digital TV recorders there are a number of features to consider before making a decision. The first issue to consider is the amount of memory the device has. Unlike VCRs and DVD recorders, digital TV recorders have an in built hard drive. The size of the memory varies enormously and you will find that this is the main factor that affects the price. You will also find that HD recordings take up far more memory than standard recordings. Another important factor is compatibility with your television provider - not all units are compatible with all providers so you should check the specifications first. It is also a good idea to take a look at the on screen navigation. These vary significantly from one model to another so it is important that you find a system that you are comfortable with using. Most are reasonably well designed with the user in mind, but a few are quite poorly designed and can be very frustrating to use. Another consideration is that some digital TV recorders come with subscription services, such as access to a video and music library. You should check whether this is the case for the model you are considering and if so what it includes. Most models include a "pause live TV" feature, but some also include rewind and slow motion functions as well, so it is sensible to check what is included. Digital TV recorders can greatly enhance your home entertainment options, but it is a good idea to do your research first before taking the plunge and buying one for your home. |
